Early in my career, music was my preferred subject matter. My first paid job was a portrait for an interview with the saxophone player Kenny Garrett Stockholm Jazz festival. I did not sleep properly for weeks before and after the gig. The press contact said "no pictures, mr Garrett is very tired after his flight". Mr Garrett himself on the other hand said, "sure!" and politely posed with his saxophone in a red couch. The picture made the cover of Lira Musikmagasin and nothing could have made me more proud. Lately, less music and musicians are being photographed by me. Mostly because I like to go to bed early, so I'm not frequenting the clubs so much anymore. Yesterday though, I went out to photograph a folky bunch in New London.
Went to a snowy JFK to wave my love goodbye on her way to India. Then placed myself for a nine hour trip by Chinatown bus to Ohio, for a short story. I am/have a mean boss, and slept on the bus both ways, and in the rental car one night – cold.
